Genetics of grain yield and its component traits in maize (Zea mays L.)

چکیده

The six essential generations (2 parents, F1, F2 and backcrosses) of the cross NAI-137 × 97B developed from two parents distinguishable for grain yield were evaluated to construe genetics its component quantitative traits during Kharif, 2019 at University Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, India. expanse direction additive genetic effects [a], dominance [d], magnitudes variance (σ2A) (σ2D) differed with various under study. Additive ambidirectional dominant involved in controlling most traits. Steep [d] desirable indicated possibility retrieving prudent segregants early segregating while exercising pedigree method handling progenies generated. It was evident results obtained that there dispersion genes among both all studied. Keywords: Additive–dominance model, Epistasis, Genetic gain, Inheritance

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Estimation of heterosis for grain yield components in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Heterosis plays an important role in achieving improvement in crop production. About 69 F 1 hybrids obtained by crossing twenty three lines and three testers in a line × tester fashion were used to derive the information on degree of heterosis over mid, better and standard parent in maize. Sixty nine crosses and their parents including one check CoH(M)5 were evaluated in a Randomized Block Desi...

Genetic Analysis for Yield Potential and Quality Traits in Maize (Zea mays L.)

Abstract: Grain yield is a complex phenomenon which results from the interaction of various contributing factors highly influenced by environmental variation. Phenotypic selection cannot directly improve the characters in heterozygous crops like maize unless dissected by genetic analysis. Gene action for various quantitative and qualitative traits was explored in a complete set of diallel invol...

Allozyme Frequency Changes Associated with Selection for Increased Grain Yield in Maize (ZEA MAYS L.).

Frequency changes of alleles at eight enzyme loci were monitored in four long-term maize selection experiments. The results indicate that changes in frequencies of the alleles at these loci are associated with changes due to selection for improved grain yield. The frequencies changed more than is consistent with the hypothesis of selective neutrality. In addition, significant deviations from a ...

Phenotypic Stability of Zea mays Grain Yield and Its Attributing Traits under Drought Stress

Phenotypic stability under stress environment facilitate the fitness of genotype and opens new horizons to explore the cryptic genetic variation. Variation in tolerance to drought stress, a major grain yield constraint to global maize production, was identified, at the phenotypic and genotypic level. Here we found a prominent hybrid H9 that showed fitness over four growing seasons for grain yie...
